As of 2018, approximately 500 UFC fighters are under contract with the company. The UFC rankings system was introduced in 2013 to create more competitive matchups and determine title contenders. The media members consider things like wins, losses, finishes, and other significant accomplishments inside the Octagon. There are currently eight different weight classes in the UFC: Men’s – Featherweight (145 lbs), Lightweight (155 lbs), Welterweight (170 lbs), Middleweight (185 lbs), Light Heavyweight (205 lbs), Heavyweight (265 lbs); Women’s – Strawweight (115 lbs), Flyweight (125 lbs). Each weight class has its own top 15 rankings, except Men’s Heavyweight, which only has a top 10 due to fewer active fighters in that division.
